Police say the woman was walking southbound along the Ohline Greenway, near Wall Avenue, when Buckley suddenly hit her in the back of the head with a metal wrench.

Buckley continued to hit the woman multiple times, according to the El Cerrito Police Department. The beating knocked out teeth and left the woman with deep cranial and facial lacerations, police said.

The 38-year-old continued beating the woman until she was incapacitated, police said. Buckley then ripped her purse away, police said.

The woman eventually came to and walked to a nearby restaurant, where she asked them to call for help, police said.

A witness called police, who responded to the scene, where Buckley was trying to hide in a bush, police said.

When the witness told officers where she was hiding, Buckely ran off, police said, adding that she was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

The woman, meanwhile, was taken to a local trauma center for treatment, police said. It's unclear whether the woman and Buckley knew each other before the attack.
