1. Sabrina Agarwal To Lead UC Berkeley's Undergraduate Studies Division (indicanews.com) — UC Berkeley has appointed anthropology professor Sabrina Agarwal as interim dean of the Division of Undergraduate Studies in the College of Letters & Science, starting July 1. She’ll guide undergraduate programs through June 2027 while a permanent dean is selected, bringing long Berkeley experience in teaching, mentorship, and campus leadership to the role.    

2. Hate crime arrest after threats at Berkeley school playground (berkeleyscanner.com) — Police arrested a man after he allegedly shouted anti-Black slurs and threatened children at Malcolm X Elementary School’s playground in South Berkeley on Saturday evening. He’s being held at Berkeley Jail on suspicion of misdemeanor hate crime and child abuse, as the city continues to track a rising number of reported hate crimes this year.    

3. Berkeley Fung Fellows Partner With UCSF to Support Gen-Z Vaping Cessation (berkeley.edu) — UC Berkeley Fung Fellows have created an AI-powered “V-Quit” chatbot to help Gen-Z students quit vaping, drawing heavily on research with Berkeley classmates. Their yearlong collaboration with UCSF’s HEARTY Lab blended engineering, public health, and business to turn campus-focused research into a practical digital support tool for young adults trying to stop vaping.    

4. Lecturer-(UGIS) Media Studies Major Program (berkeley.edu) — UC Berkeley’s Media Studies program is building a pool of lecturers to teach courses like Media and Democracy and Research Methods starting as early as fall 2026. The posting outlines salary ranges, qualifications, and a review window that begins June 15, offering local scholars and instructors a path into Berkeley’s interdisciplinary media program.
