BERKELEY, CA — A 27-year-old Vallejo man has been arrested after sexually assaulting a child staying overnight at UC Berkeley for summer camp, according to a report by the Berkeley Scanner.

The 27-year-old, identified as Quaylin Wesley, is accused of sodomizing an 11-year-old child at a UC Berkeley residence hall on Saturday, according to the report.

"The incident was initially reported to UCPD as an attempted sexual assault in a residence hall," university police said in a statement Saturday. "Through subsequent investigation, UCPD determined that the incident was a completed sexual assault, rather than an attempted one."

Wesley was taken into custody in connection with the sexual assault and booked in Alameda County jail. He faces potential charges of sodomizing a child under 18, lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under 14, and burglary, following his arrest.

Wesley was employed as a summer camp staffer for a program that isn't operated by UC Berkeley, according to the report. It's unclear what the program's name is or how long it's been going on.

Wesley is a Berkeley alumnus who graduated in 2021, according to the report. His LinkedIn profile shows he's been working at schools and youth programs over the last few years.
