EL CERRITO, CA — A routine fare check in the East Bay on Tuesday morning led BART officers to a wanted fugitive convicted of killing a transgender woman in Georgia, authorities said.
BART officials say officers stopped 27-year-old Davonte Fore just before 9 a.m. at the El Cerrito del Norte station after he tried boarding a train without paying.
Fore ran off, leading officers on a foot chase for several blocks before being caught, officials said.
When officers asked for his ID, Fore gave the officers a fake one, officials said.
But after taking his fingerprints, officers found Fore's real identity and saw he was wanted in Georgia in connection with a 2021 murder, authorities said.
Fore was in the middle of a trial stemming from the fatal shooting of a transgender woman in Georgia when he jumped bail, according to , a Georgia news station.
Despite his absence from the trial. Fore was convicted in 2024 of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to WJCL.
