BERKELEY, CA — Dorothy, we're not in 2026 anymore.
Berkeley-founded Peet's Coffee is taking it back to 1966 for one day only on Tuesday, Sept. 29, by offering its original price of 25 cents for medium coffees.
The company announced the promotion as part of National Coffee Day and to mark its 60th anniversary.
"The throwback is a nod to the brand's beginnings, when Alfred Peet opened his first coffee bar in Berkeley in 1966 and helped introduce a new standard of craft coffee to America," Praytell, a PR agency, told Patch on behalf of Peet's Coffee. "Sixty years later, Peet's is still rooted in the same commitment to craft that made it an original in the first place."
A $30 Cold Brew Pass will also be available at select coffee bars, while at-home coffee drinkers can take part in the celebration with 25% off on the Peet's Coffee website.
"For Peet's, 60 years isn't only about looking back at an original – it's about celebrating what it means to remain one," according to Praytell. "From its Berkeley beginnings to the coffee culture it helped shape, Peet's has spent six decades staying true to its craft while continuing to evolve what comes next."
