BERKELEY, CA — Police say they've arrested an armed man suspected of making threats to another person at a shelter in Berkeley over the weekend.
It's unclear what prompted the alleged threats. The suspect was at the Men's Shelter in Downtown Berkeley when he used brass knuckles and a firearm to threaten another person, police said.
Officers responded to the shelter, but by the time they arrived, the suspect was gone, according to the Berkeley Police Department.
The suspect returned to the shelter an hour later and was detained by officers, police said.
While searching the suspect, officers found a loaded firearm on him, police said. The suspect was not identified, but was taken into custody on suspicion of brandishing a weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
"This incident serves as another reminder of the importance of reporting threats and dangerous behavior to law enforcement," police said. "Our officers take these calls seriously and work to keep our community safe."
