BERKELEY, CA — A story that began during the uncertain days of the pandemic is preparing to find readers around the world.

Bay Area author and longtime Berkeley community participant Dhruva Thapa has announced the global release of his new literary fiction novel, The Bridge Across Oceans, scheduled for Sunday, November 8, 2026, on Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions.

The novel explores the emotional landscapes of migration, education, family relationships, personal ambition, and the search for belonging. Moving through Nepal, Darjeeling in India, and the United States, the fictional narrative reflects on the invisible connections that endure even when people are separated by countries, cultures, and generations.

For Thapa, the publication represents the completion of a creative journey that began several years ago and developed alongside his professional work, literary interests, and community commitments in the San Francisco Bay Area.

A Story Born During an Uncertain Time

The idea for The Bridge Across Oceans emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, when much of the world had stopped and countless families found themselves separated from loved ones.

Although COVID-19 is not the subject of the novel, the atmosphere of that period influenced the author's reflections on distance, hope, uncertainty, and human connection.

What began as an idea gradually developed into a fictional narrative about individuals whose lives are shaped by family expectations, educational opportunities, cultural traditions, and choices that carry consequences across generations.

The manuscript continued to evolve through years of writing, revision, and careful development of its characters.

At its heart, the novel asks questions familiar to people from many backgrounds: What does it mean to leave home in pursuit of a better future? What sacrifices do families make to educate their children? Can a person fully belong to two different worlds? And how do the relationships we leave behind continue to influence the people we become?

While these questions have special resonance within immigrant communities, the novel approaches them through universal experiences of love, responsibility, ambition, memory, and belonging.

From the Himalayas to California: A Journey Across Cultures

Set against the landscapes and communities of Nepal, Darjeeling, Kathmandu, and California, The Bridge Across Oceans explores lives shaped by different cultures and circumstances.

The novel reflects on the value of education, the emotional responsibilities of family, and the challenges people encounter while pursuing opportunities beyond their familiar surroundings.

Its characters navigate relationships, expectations, and personal decisions while carrying memories of the people and places that shaped them.

For immigrant and diaspora readers, the story may evoke experiences of cultural adjustment, separation from family, and maintaining connections with one's homeland.

For other readers, it offers a fictional exploration of questions surrounding identity, generational responsibility, and the meaning of home.

The book is a work of literary fiction, not a memoir or autobiography. Its story and characters belong to an imagined world, even as its central themes reflect recognizable human experiences.

A Literary Journey With Deep Berkeley Connections

Although the novel reaches across several countries, its author has longstanding connections to Berkeley and the surrounding East Bay community.

Thapa's work in the Bay Area has included restaurant entrepreneurship, culinary education, cultural programming, writing, and community service.

As a former chef and co-owner of Himalayan and Indian restaurants in Berkeley, he has been involved in sharing Himalayan and South Asian culinary traditions with local residents.

His creative interests have also extended beyond the kitchen. Over the years, he has published poetry, cookbooks, and books focusing on wellness and personal development.

His literary and cultural participation includes involvement in Berkeley-area Asian cultural festivals and community gatherings where food, literature, music, and cultural traditions bring together people from different backgrounds.

Thapa has also served as president of the Berkeley Annapurna Lions Club and has remained involved with Lions Clubs International community service initiatives, including programs organized by Nepali American volunteers throughout the Bay Area.

Before moving into his professional career in the United States, Thapa worked as an educator in Nepal. His experiences in education, hospitality, community service, and writing have contributed to his continuing interest in the relationships between individual opportunity and family responsibility.

These varied connections give the novel's publication a local dimension beyond its international settings.

Why Stories of Migration and Belonging Matter

The San Francisco Bay Area is home to communities whose family histories span continents and generations.

For many residents, the experience of living between cultures is part of everyday life. Educational ambitions, family obligations, professional opportunities, and the effort to preserve cultural identity frequently intersect.

Literature offers a way to explore these experiences beyond statistics and public debates, through the emotions and decisions of fictional characters.

The Bridge Across Oceans addresses these themes through a story about human relationships rather than political arguments or immigration policy.

Its exploration of parents and children, responsibility and independence, opportunity and sacrifice is intended to resonate with readers from diverse backgrounds.

The novel also considers how people carry their early experiences into adulthood, and how memories of home can remain meaningful long after they have moved elsewhere.

A Global Release During a Meaningful Cultural Season

The book's November release comes during a season of cultural and literary significance for many Nepali communities, including celebrations associated with Tihar, the Festival of Lights, and Laxmi Jayanti, honoring celebrated Nepali poet Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota.

For Thapa, the season offers a meaningful setting for sharing a new literary work with readers.

The novel will initially be published in English, with a Nepali-language edition planned for the future.

The English edition aims to make the story accessible to readers beyond the Nepali-speaking community, including those interested in multicultural fiction, immigrant experiences, intergenerational relationships, and contemporary literary storytelling.

Global Launch November 8, With a Local Book Signing to Follow

The worldwide release of The Bridge Across Oceans is scheduled for November 8, 2026, through Amazon, with paperback and Kindle editions planned.

In addition to the online publication, Thapa is preparing a Meet the Author and Book Signing gathering intended to bring together readers, friends, and members of the Bay Area community.

The date and venue of the in-person event have not yet been finalized and will be announced separately.

The event will offer an opportunity for readers to meet the author, learn about the creative process behind the novel, and discuss the book's themes.

Local readers, community members, and literary enthusiasts are invited to follow the upcoming announcements.
