Annual Bird Count Planned for Sunday
Rain for shine--bird enthusiasts are needed to volunteer for this important event.

Birdwatchers will gather throughout the Bay Area starting Sunday for the Audubon Society’s 115th annual Christmas Bird Count.
The count, a nationwide event, will take place between Sunday and Jan. 5 at a variety of locations.
In the Bay Area, the Oakland count, scheduled for Sunday, is one of the largest in the region and last year was the fourth-largest in North America, according to organizers. An expected 287 volunteers will comb parks, beaches and even cemeteries in search of birds and compile a tally of species and individual birds, organizers said.
