BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley Public Works employee Pat Urdahl was arrested after he threatened to shoot other City workers and himself, the Berkeley Police Department said on Wednesday. Urdahl was taken into custody in Concord and faces charges of willfully threatening to commit a crime, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a controlled substance while armed, and several felony enhancements.

Shortly before noon on Sunday, the police department was notified of the threats by Urdahl.

Officers checked on the welfare of the threatened workers and determined that everyone was safe.

On Monday, officers fanned out through the City to provide additional security if Urdahl came to work. He did not, so detectives, a Special Response Team and additional officers went to Concord to serve search and arrest warrants.

Urdahl was arrested around 1:15 p.m. without incident. The search turned up a firearm, ammunition, and controlled substances, according to police.

The Concord Police Department and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the investigation.
