BERKELEY, CA — Two years after Americans selected a new president and a year after Gov. Gavin Newsom faced a recall election, Californians will go back to the polls to do their civic duty once again.

On Nov. 8, Californians will cast their ballots to decide the fate of the governorship, attorney general, insurance commissioner, secretary of state, superintendent of public instruction, seats in the U.S. Senate, local government placements and seven statewide propositions on everything from abortion rights to legalized sports betting.

The COVID-19 pandemic spurred a vote-by-mail movement in the state, and last year Newsom signed legislation to make mail voting a permanent fixture in California.

For Berkeley residents who didn’t vote early or vote by mail, they will be called back to nearby ballot boxes on Nov. 8.
