Berkeley Gunfight Under Investigation

One man was shot. He was treated at a hospital and arrested.

BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley Police are investigating a gunfight that took place Friday night near Sacramento and Oregon streets. One man was injured. In addition to suffering a gunshot wound, 27-year-old Darelle Antoine Kimball of Vallejo was arrested for being a participant in the gun battle. No additional arrests have been made.

Police received multiple reports of gunfire at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Officers stopped a vehicle near San Pablo and Ashby avenues that they believed may have been involved in the gunfight. "Officers discovered that the occupant of the vehicle had been shot and called for medical aid," police said in a printed release. "During a search of the vehicle, officers also located a handgun."

Kimball was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a loaded and concealed firearm.

The investigation is continuing. The Berkeley Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance.
