The cause of the fire is under investigation.
BERKELEY, CA — A fire Monday night in the Berkeley hills injured four including two firefighters and probably destroyed a home, fire officials said Tuesday.
More than one person called the fire department at about 6:50 p.m. to report the flames coming from a home in the 2800 block of Shasta Road.
Firefighters arrived and saw fire coming from the rear of the multi-level home, interim Deputy Fire Chief Keith May said by email.

Two occupants escaped on their own and were taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns, May said.
Flames burned through a PG&E power pole, causing a power line to fall close to some fire equipment, he said. Firefighters brought the fire under control at 8:36 p.m.

Crews and investigators remained at the home during the night. The cause of the fire is under investigation, May said, adding that the home appears to be a "total loss."
