Berkeley Hiring New Firefighters and Paramedics
The application deadline is less than a month away.

The City of Berkeley is hiring new firefighters and paramedics. The deadline for applying is Aug. 1.
"The Berkeley Fire Department has 140 women and men dedicated to providing the highest level of service to our community," said Fire Chief Gil Dong. "Motivated people who seek a career in public service should apply."
Berkeley firefighters and paramedics are trained professionals who provide fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency medical services at the Basic and Advanced Life Support levels to Berkeley's nearly 120,000 residents and many visitors.

The Department has seven engines, two trucks, and three Advanced Life Support ambulances, and responds to more than 14,000 emergencies a year.
Minimum Qualifications

- Age: Must be at least 18 years of age
- Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate
- Vision: Minimal uncorrected vision of 20/100 in each eye – both corrected to 20/30 normal color vision
- License: Valid California Class C Driver's License as well as satisfactory driving record, and must obtain Firefighter Endorsement prior to the completion of the Fire Academy
- Paramedic License Requirement: California Paramedic License, National Registry Paramedic Certification Card, or active participation in a Paramedic Field Internship Program. Applicants who are actively participating in a paramedic field internship must provide proof of internship status on school letterhead at time of application
- Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Card of Completion issued no earlier than August 1, 2015
