Berkeley Police Search Andronico's for Suspicious Person
Police evacuated Andronico's on Telegraph Avenue Friday night after a report of a suspicious person possibly carrying an assault rifle. No such person was found.
Police evacuated on Telegraph Avenue at Derby Street on Friday night after receiving a call alleging there was a suspicious person on the premises.
"We had a citizen call in — they saw a suspicious person who possibly had an assault rifle under their coat," said Sgt. Spiller of the Berkeley Police Department.
Officers arrived at the 2655 Telegraph Ave. store at 8:21 p.m. and evacuated customers and employees. The Daily Cal reports that about three squad cars and six officers were present at 8:45 p.m.

"We searched the place, and we didn't find anything," said Sgt. Spiller, who said the area was clear by 9 p.m., and people were allowed to re-enter the market.
Spiller added that when there is a weapon in public, the police department usually gets more than one phone call. "This time, there was only one," he said. "We searched the place and evacuated it, just to be on the safe side."
