RECALL LIBRARY TRUSTEES. We Need A Fresh Start.
The Berkeley Public Library trustees have had 4 years on the job and the result is a library in turmoil. The public has cried out about the dumbing down and the shrinking depth of the book collections and magazines and databases. The unions are handling unprecedented number of grievances and hearings, employee morale has hit rock bottom as documented in the March 2, 2017 expose in Berkeleyside, "Staffers at Berkeley Library Describe Atmosphere of Discomfort and Distrust". The library has veered so far off course that we saw the birth of whistleblowers at the library. The current trustees continue to refuse to acknowledge the existence of problems and has actively ignored controversy over many years. The time has come to recall the them and replace them with people who will provide responsive leadership. We want trustees with skills the current trustees don’t have. We want trustees with the background and skills necessary to identify and address the problems at the library. We all want to see staff, union, and management united in providing the excellent service our community supports and expects.
Please sign the following petition so that the city council is reminded that we want them to do more than discuss. By signing the email petition we support them taking action for a Fresh Start by recalling or "reconstituting the Library Board."
