Berkeley Residents Push For City Council To Help Oppose Coal Terminal
The idea of establishing a coal transport base next to the Port of Oakland isn't new, and neither is the fight it caused in West Oakland.

On Tuesday, protesters in Berkeley urged the city council to back a resolution that would prevent trains loaded with coal from reaching a proposed transport terminal near the Port of Oakland. But now that President Donald Trump has reignited the issue, they're enlisting the help of the communities that lie along the path that the coal would take to get there.

The idea of establishing a coal transport base next to the Port of Oakland isn't new, and neither is the fight it caused in West Oakland. But in July, President Trump rekindled the issue when he signed an order to give $75 million for the project.
"These actions will support over 14,000 jobs and save the American people $50 billion in electricity costs," he said after signing the executive order.
