Berkeley Shooting Victim Identified

BERKELEY, CA — A man who was shot and killed Thursday evening in Berkeley has been identified by police as 19-year-old Berkeley resident Ignacio Francis Jr.

Francis was shot after an argument around 7:30 p.m. near Fairview and Adeline streets, about two blocks from the Ashby BART station.

He was found by police in the 1800 block of Fairview Street. Francis died later at a hospital, according to police.

Investigators said that a group of men and women were standing at the corner of Harper and Fairview streets when a suspect approached them and fired multiple shots into the group after an argument.

Both parties left the area and the suspect is still at large, police said.
