For now, the storied Berkeley institution will continue offering take-out​, and operating its Sunday market.

BERKELEY, CA—The iconic Berkeley restaurant Chez Panisse will resume dine-in service no earlier than next year, according to an announcement on the restaurant's Instagram page.

"Our next target is to open both the restaurant and café shortly after the new year," the post reads. "We do not have an exact date to announce yet."

The restaurant said the reason for the continued closure "can be distilled to COVID, the surge of the Delta variant, and their many implications."

For now, the storied Berkeley institution will continue offering take-out, and operating its Sunday market.

"The ideal scenario this fall is that COVID cases drop, vaccines become available to younger children, and the restaurant industry settles into these new cultural paradigms," the restaurant's Instagram post reads.
