Man Accused Of Killing Girlfriend At Berkeley Apartments

The woman was found dead in her apartment in the 1900 block of California Street on Saturday, authorities said.

BERKELEY, CA — The boyfriend of a woman who was found dead in her apartment in Berkeley on Saturday has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder.

Police say Damarcus Jones, 28, attacked and killed his girlfriend at her apartment in the 1900 block of California Street.

The woman's property manager found her dead inside the apartment Saturday around noon and called police, authorities said.

It's unclear how long the woman had been dead by then. She was only identified by police as a 37-year-old Berkeley woman.

Police did not say what led up to the physical assault, but "based on evidence and information developed during the investigation," Jones was identified as a suspect in the woman's death.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Jones' arrest and located him on Tuesday in Dixon, police said.

A cause of death has yet to be determined, police said. Meanwhile, detectives have turned their evidence over to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, which will weigh whether to charge Dixon.

"We appreciate the community’s continued support throughout this investigation and are grateful for the efforts that led to the swift apprehension of the suspect," police said.
