Lanes Reopen After Students Injured in School Bus Crash on I-80 in Berkeley

All lanes of westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Berkeley have reopened this morning after a crash involving a school bus injured at least a dozen children, according to the California Highway Patrol.

There were 45 to 50 students on board the bus on their way from Berkeley to Oakland on a field trip when it got into a collision with at least three other cars near the Ashby Avenue exit of Highway 80 at about 10 a.m., CHP spokesman Officer Sean Wilkenfeld said. At least a dozen of the approximately 8-year-old students suffered minor injuries, including scrapes and bloody noses. A school counselor had a cut on the face, according to the CHP.

Berkeley fire crews responded to treat the injuries and take children to the hospital if necessary, according to the fire department. The crash prompted the closure of two left lanes of the highway for much of this morning. All lanes of the highway were reopened as of about 11:30 a.m., according to the CHP.

At least a dozen children suffered minor injuries when a school bus was involved in a multi-car crash that is blocking lanes on westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Berkeley this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

There were about 50 students on board the bus when it got into a collision with several cars near the Ashby Avenue exit of Highway 80 at about 10 a.m., CHP officials said.

A few of the approximately 8-year-old students suffered bloody noses and a school counselor had a cut on the face, according to the CHP. Two left lanes of the highway remain blocked this morning and are expected to remain closed until about 11:20 a.m., according to the CHP.
