A fun, no-snobbery intro to wine tasting at Book Society. This three-part series with sommelier Lauren Reuthinger explores wine fundamentals, varietal comparisons, and food pairings—designed to boost your confidence and your palate, one sip at a time.
At Book Society, we believe wine should be fun—not intimidating. Whether you’re exploring our book & wine pairings or pouring yourself a taste at the sip station, our goal is to make discovering wine feel approachable, enjoyable, and totally judgment-free.
That’s the spirit behind our new Wine Tasting Fundamentals series: a relaxed, informative, and interactive journey into the world of wine. Led by Lauren Reuthinger, C.S. of Oliver McCrum Wines (the go-to importer for exceptional Italian wines), this three-part class is designed for curious beginners and wine lovers who want to sip a little smarter—without the snobbery.
Class Schedule:
5:30 - 7pm
September 4 – Wine Fundamentals
Learn how to taste and assess wine like a pro. We’ll explore the basics of flavor, structure, and aroma, introduce key Italian wine regions, and talk fundamentals of food and wine pairing to kick things off.
September 11 – Wine Comparisons
Compare and contrast varietals—some you know, and some you may not (yet!). Discover how different grapes, styles, and regions stack up, and uncover what you really love in a wine.
September 18 – Food & Wine Pairing (with an Edible Quiz!)
Put your palate to the test in our final class, where you'll taste through a series of fun pairings and try your hand at a playful “edible quiz” that will challenge what you’ve learned—and surprise your senses.
Spots are limited—sign up for one session or all three. Come with questions, leave with a new favorite wine (or three), and a fresh sense of confidence in every sip.
