Family-friendly (Ages 8 and up) Ukulele Summer Camp at UUCB July 13-17, 2026 Now Enrolling

Family-friendly (Ages 8 and up) Ukulele Summer Camp is a fun day camp for learning to play and sing with the ukulele with musical instruction, games and activities, and a performance with invited family and friends at the end of camp. Parents are encouraged to enroll and learn along with their kids, and families with two or more campers enrolled receive a discount.

The ukulele was introduced to Hawaii in the 1800s by the Portuguese and was adopted by the Hawaiians as a much loved instrument, and is now played around the world. Campers will play a variety of songs and also learn some things about Hawaiian culture and music.

Location: Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley

Dates: July 13-17, 2026

Hours: Mon – Fri, 10 am – 1 pm

Cost per Camper: $300

Families receive a 10% discount

Campers bring a peanut-free snack, lunch, and water bottle each day.

Each camper also brings: a ukulele and tuner. A booklet of public domain ukulele songs with basic illustrations and chord charts will be provided. Music instruction and practice will be interspersed with activities such as drawing and educational games. Teacher/assistant to camper ratio of 1:6 max.

Outline of Camp Curriculum:

Day 1: Ukulele basics. Learning about the ukulele, how to hold and strum it, and how to form chords. Focus on one chord songs. Learning to switch between chords.

Day 2: Focus on two chord songs and learning to play tab (picking out melodies on the ukulele)

Day 3: Focus on three chord songs, rhythmic exercises and different ways to strum the ukulele.

Day 4: More chords and songs

Day 5: Review and Performance

Older and/or more advanced students are encouraged to learn additional chords and songs as their individual ability allows.
