About the event
Introducing a new book club, where our yoga practice continues off the mat and onto the page.
Off the Mat is a book club for anyone who wants to carry their yoga practice beyond the postures and into the way they read, reflect, and move through the world. We won't flow through a single sun salutation. Instead, we'll gather in the quiet solitude of the bookstore during the still morning hours to discuss books that deepen our understanding of the practice and the philosophy behind it. We'll also integrate a little meditation and journaling time to provide space for thoughtful reflection and contemplation. Whether you're a seasoned teacher, a curious student, or simply yoga-curious, all you need to bring is an inquisitive mind and open heart.
Our first read is The Yamas & Niyamas by Deborah Adele — a warm, accessible guide to yoga's ethical foundations. For this first gathering, we'll focus our discussion on the yamas (Chapters 1-7), the practices that shape how we meet the world around us, and explore what they look like when we live them off the mat.
Come as you are: wear comfortable attire and bring a favorite journal.
