Catalytic Converter Thief Shoots At Witness: Police
The shooting happened in the North Berkeley hills Thursday morning.
BERKELEY, CA — Gunfire erupted in Berkeley on Thursday morning when a resident of the North Berkeley hills woke up to the sound of sawing outside his residence.
At least two suspects were apparently attempting to steal the neighbor's catalytic converter from his car. After calling 911, the first neighbor told police he yelled at the suspects to stop and that police were on their way.
One of the suspects then allegedly opened fire in the man's direction before fleeing. No injuries were reported.

Berkeley police said "This incident is a definite reminder that the people who commit crimes like these may be armed and willing to commit violence. If you witness an in-progress crime, do not hesitate to dial 911 and remain in the safest place available."
The suspects were last seen wearing hooded tops and driving a dark colored SUV. Police ask anyone with information about the case, or with security footage of the suspects, contact BPD's property crimes unit at (510) 981-5737.
