City Of Berkeley: Investigation Continues Into The Recent Collision On San Pablo Avenue

The pedestrian (a 59-year-old man) was transported to a local trauma hospital and is in critical, but stable condition.

Berkeley, California (Thursday, August 19, 2021) - On August 19th at 2:46 pm, the Berkeley Police Department received multiple calls about a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of San Pablo Avenue and Oregon Street. When emergency personnel arrived, they discovered that the pedestrian had been seriously injured.

Because of the severity of the collision, the Department’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team (FAIT) responded to the scene to continue the investigation.

The pedestrian (a 59-year-old man) was transported to a local trauma hospital and is in critical, but stable condition. The driver (a 65-year-old Berkeley man) was contacted at the scene and has since been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence—causing injury.

San Pablo Avenue between Grayson Street and Heinz Avenue will remain closed while the investigation continues for the next few hours.
