City Of Berkeley: With Vaccinations Continuing To Show Power Against Covid-19, Booster Doses May Help High Risk, Elderly

Berkeley, California (Friday, October 01, 2021) - Clinics across the region now offer the full set of options for all three approved vaccines including "booster" doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for specific groups defined by age, underlying medical conditions and risk.

Federal and state guidelines recommend a Pfizer booster dose for adults who received their second Pfizer dose at least six months ago and are in specific categories:
- 65-year-olds and older
- Residents of long-term care facilities
- 50-years-olds and older who have underlying medical conditions or are at increased risk of social inequities, including communities of color and others at risk of inequities.
Federal and state guidelines also recommend this Pfizer booster as an option to consider for two more specific groups if they received their second Pfizer dose at least six months earlier:

- 18 to 49-year-olds with underlying medical conditions
- 18 to 64-year-olds at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting
