The Berkeley Baroque Strings opens its 2016-17 season with a concerti concert performed by members of the orchestra. Among the works presented will be the Adagio and Allegro movements of J.S. Bach’s “Harpsichord Concerto in D Major,” Handel’s Tenor Aria “Sharp Violins” from “Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day,” and J.S. Bach’s “Concerto for Violin and Oboe in c minor.” The Viola da Gamba, an instrument of the early music period, will be featured in two movements of the “Sonata for Viola da Gamba in e minor” by Telemann. Among other pieces rounding out the program will be two movements of the “Cello Concerto in a minor” by Nicola Porpora, and the Presto from Telemann’s “Viola Concerto in G Major.”
Under the music direction of Kati Kyme, a member of the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and the New Esterhazy Quartet, the chamber orchestra is an affiliate of the San Francisco Early Music Society.
