Pedestrian Killed By Berkeley City Vehicle

An elderly woman was crossing the street when she was hit.

BERKELEY, CA — A 70-year-old woman died Friday afternoon when she was hit by a city vehicle in Berkeley as she crossed the street, according to the California Highway Patrol. She was pronounced dead at the scene - the intersection of Channing Way and Fulton Street. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

CHP Officer Matthew Hamer says the woman was in a crosswalk, and the driver was going 15 mph when the crash occurred.

The CHP has taken over the investigation of the crash.
