BERKELEY, CA — Police arrested a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a woman early last week in Berkeley, police said Thursday.
Alexander McGee, 29, of Oakland, was arrested Wednesday night. The crash happened Jan. 20 on a sidewalk near University Avenue and Sixth Street.
McGee was allegedly fleeing in a car from a University of California police officer when the crash occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m.

The name of the victim, who was 58 years old and homeless, is not being released because her family hasn't been notified, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.
Before McGee allegedly fled, police were approaching McGee's gray four-door Nissan sedan because the university police officer saw a woman inside that car and the woman was apparently screaming for help.
