Don't Chicken Out! Here's How to Raise Your Own Backyard Chickens

Interested in gathering fresh eggs from your own backyard chicken coop, but don't know where to begin? Workshop in Berkeley this Sunday.

BERKELEY, CA - If you've been thinking about raising backyard chickens but need more information, a workshop will be held in Berkeley this Sunday.

You'll hear from Carine Elkhoraibi, an Animal Welfare Scientist at UC Davis, Jane Batavia, a registered veterinary technician at Berkeley Animal Care Services, and Johnie Kindle, an animal control officer with Berkeley Animal Care services. They will teach you how to raise your backyard chickens in a way that's humane, conforms to laws and respects neighbors.

Topics include chicken behavior, adopting from rescue shelters, minimizing common behavior problems and logistics, such as coop design and where to find equipment.
