DUI Checkpoint Planned In Berkeley
Police have announced the exact location and time of the checkpoint.

BERKELEY, CA — A checkpoint to screen for Driving Under the Influence and for valid Driver’s Licenses will be held in Berkeley Friday night, the Berkeley Police Department announced on Nixle.
It will be held from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the intersection of Shattuck Avenue and Parker Street in the southbound lanes of traffic.
"Impaired motorists put others on the road at significant risk," Lt. Jennifer Tate said. "Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety."

The location of Friday's checkpoint was selected based on the number of impaired driving-related crashes.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
