Elderly Couple Struck By Car On Martin Luther King Jr. Way In Berkeley
The couple sustained serious injuries, and Martin Luther King Jr. Way was shut down in both directions Saturday night.
BERKELEY, CA — An elderly couple was struck by a driver, shutting down Martin Luther King Jr. Way in both directions for hours Saturday night, police reported.
A 74-year-old woman and a 76-year-old man sustained critical head injuries when they were struck by a Toyota Corolla driven by a 78-year-old Emeryville woman as they were crossing the street, the nonprofit news outlet Berkeleyside reported.
The crash happened at the Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Addison Street intersection just before 10 p.m. Saturday.

According to Berkeleyside, the driver remained at the scene and intoxication was not believed to be a factor.
The street remained closed for hours while the Berkeley Police Department Fatal Accident Investigation Team investigated the cause of the crash.
