Berkeley Playhouse Presents Lucky Duck

A tale for all ages, Lucky Duck is a hip, stylish riff on the classic Ugly Duckling story featuring a zany cast of familiar fairytale/glamorous-pop-icon characters, with a hot pop score filled with R&B, gospel and Broadway-style showstoppers by Henry Krieger and Bill Russell, (the creators of Dreamgirls and Side Show)!

Embrace your inner-swan and follow odd duck Serena on a madcap adventure as she flees her awkward rustic barnyard life in search of bigger dreams. Along the way she meets Prince Drake (a spoiled and petulant prince), Galinda (the most fashionable Goose in the city), and Wolf, a talent agent and reformed meat eater (or is he?). With their help and a high-fashion make-over, the new supermodel swan enters a national singing contest with her eye set on the prize and a date with the prince. But soon she discovers that beauty is only feather deep – you need to find your own true voice to succeed.

With a stellar cast directed by Kimberly Dooley (Seussical, the Musical, Once On This Island, Pippin), Lucky Duck is exactly the kind of musical Bay Area audiences love:  smart, sophisticated, and full of social commentary (at laugh a minute delivery),  all set to a respectable musical score.
