Park Day School welcomes two passionate authors and educators, Rick and Bill Ayers, in Conversation with Jon Carroll, one the Bay Area’s most avidly-read columnists. Bill Ayers is a school reform proponent and University of Illinois at Chicago professor whose past as a co-founder of the controversial Weather Underground caused a brief bit of turmoil in his acquaintance Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. His brother Rick Ayers is a locally celebrated former high school educator. The Ayers brothers’ recent book, Teaching the Taboo: Courage and Imagination in the Classroom, emphasizes that education at its best is about inviting students to become powerful choice-makers as they forge their own pathways into a wider world.
The two authors will join host Jon Carroll in what promises to be an exciting evening for every parent currently navigating public and private education. Proceeds benefit the academic and financial assistance programs at Park Day School.
