Friday After School Art Workshops for Kids at Sticky Art Lab

Send your child to Sticky Art Lab for special Friday afternoon workshops with guest artist-instructors! Sessions run 3:30 - 5:30 pm, with early care available starting at 2:30 pm. (Early arrivals will have time for some homework, snack, and a warm-up project.) For ages 6 to 12, unless otherwise noted.

Workshop Schedule, Fall 2013

October 4
Felting with Marie Jensen
$35/session
Learn the tools and techniques for felting colorful wool creations like wall-hangings, soft animal figures, or sculpted pieces with woven natural materials. Students have access to felting needles, foam blocks, colorful wool for blending, and simple techniques to try this age-old craft. Each child leaves with a new skill and their own woolly creations.

October 11
Soap Crafting with Hilary Goldman
$35/session, plus $7 materials fee
Ages 9 - 12
Make your own soap! Using a pre-formulated melt-and-pour soap base, participants will learn how to melt, color and scent soap, then pour it into a mold. Soaps can be as simple as one fragrance and one color, or kids can try out a layering technique. Embed an eraser, or include extras like shredded loofah or poppy seeds! Unmold the soaps and package them up, all ready to give as a gift! Each child will leave with 2 soaps.

October 18
Silk-screened Day of the Dead T-shirts with Dawn Diskowski
$35/session, plus $5 materials fee, or bring your own clean dark-colored t-shirt
Learn the basics for silk-screening your own T-shirt. Work with a Day of the Dead “skull” template and design the decorations. Then mask, screen, and dry the design onto the shirt. Each child will leave with one awesome t-shirt -- great for a gift!

October 25
Comic Arts with Damon Guthrie (Part 1 of 2)
$35/session, or $70/two-part series
Let’s sketch our own characters, write their story in cartoon format and give them color and depth with watercolor, pen, and pencil. Participants will also learn still life drawing and perspective techniques. Each child leaves with their own story boards, and illuminated drawings.

November 1

November 8 - School holiday - No workshops

November 15
Plush Toys with Claire Sanders (Part 1 of 2)
$70/two-part series, plus $5 materials fee
Transform fleece, felt, thread, and stuffing into a unique plush toy! Participants will get to design the basic shape, cut it out of fabric, add features and details, stuff and sew it up. Each child will learn the basics of sewing by hand as well as turning a drawing into a 3D object. Make a toy for yourself or make presents for the holidays!

December 6
Exploring Texture with Printmaking and Origami with Suzi Garner (Part 1 of 2)
$70/two-part series, plus $5 materials fee
Make your mark! Use collage and printing to make books, picture frames, gift boxes, or just about anything! Participants will spend one session using collage materials to create funky printmaking plates, then make prints on media such as paper, fabric, or wood. In session two each child will use their fabulous prints to construct and embellish nifty gifts like blank books, folded origami boxes, picture frames, or small sewing projects.

December 13
