Homeless RV Parking Locations At Issue In Berkeley
The mayor is in talks with the owner of a private parking lot about the possibility of allowing RVs to park there.
BERKELEY, CA — The Berkeley City Council at its meeting on Tuesday will discuss two related proposals aimed at dealing with the increasing number of people who live in recreational vehicles in the city.
One proposal would grant two-week parking permits for RVs in all areas of the city.
The only guideline in the proposal by councilmembers Sophie Hahn, Ben Bartlett and Rashi Kesarwani is that "a reasonable fee" be charged to cover the city's costs associated with issuing the permits to homeless people who live in their cars.

The other proposal initially would have allowed temporary RV parking on public streets in the Berkeley Marina. But that proposal has now been modified because Mayor Jesse Arreguin is in talks with the owner of a private parking lot about the possibility of allowing RVs to park there, according to a spokesman for Arreguin.
An amended proposal co-sponsored by Kesarwani, Arreguin and Hahn removes the Marina as a safe parking location and instead directs city staff to keep looking for another off-street parking location for RVs.
