House Fire Kills Dog In Weekend Fire In Berkeley

The fire caused about $250,000 of damage to the Home.

BERKELEY, CA — A dog died in a one-alarm house fire early Saturday morning in West Berkeley and investigators are looking into the possibility of arson, a battalion chief said Sunday.

The fire was reported at 12:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of Eighth Street, Battalion Chief Bill Kehoe said.

The first firefighters to arrive saw flames rising to the roofline on the front side of the two-story home.

Kehoe said the occupant of the home escaped into the backyard and was not injured.
