Library Late Fees Forgiven For 'Summer Of Love' In Alameda Co.

Those with overdue books, CDs or DVDs: Hide no longer! All is forgiven, and your borrowing privileges will be restored.

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA – Love is in the air!

During Alameda County Library’s Summer of Library Love: Fine Forgiveness campaign library patrons, who lost borrowing privileges due to outstanding fines, can start with a clean slate. From June 1 to July 31, the libraries will erase late fees on overdue items returned, no matter how late.

During this two-month period, Alameda County residents can return overdue books, CDs and DVDs to the library circulation desk or book drop at any library location to have late fees cleared. The fines also can be deleted for materials already returned by making a request online at Ask Us, by phone or at the circulation desk of any branch library, officials said.

"Reconnecting with children, teens, adults, and families is at the heart of the Summer of Library Love: Fine Forgiveness campaign," administrators said. "More than 77,000 library patrons have outstanding fines that prevent them from checking out materials; of these patrons, more than 13,000 are children and teens."

“Patrons will have a chance to clear their accounts and restore their library card privileges so that they can enjoy everything the library offers,” said Cindy Chadwick, county librarian.
