2 Alarm Commercial Fire Extinguished In Berkeley

The fire puffed thick, black smoke for about 45 minutes.

BERKELEY, CA — A two alarm, smoky fire in Berkeley has been extinguished by firefighters. There were no injuries.

An alert has been sent asking people to avoid the area bordered by Cedar, 4th Street, Virginia and Eastshore Highway.

Berkeley Assistant Fire Chief Keith May said the fire was at the Hanson Aggregates Berkeley Asphalt and Readymix building and firefighters responded at 9:46 a.m. The fire was out by 10:30.

Nearby railroad tracks were temporarily shut down for safety reasons but have since reopened.

The Fourth Street shopping area wasn't affected by the fire.
