Makalu Lions Club hosts Dance competition in Berkeley

Makalu Lions Club hosts Dance competition on Oct. 9th in Berkeley

(Berkeley) -- Members of the Makalu Lions Club will host a Nepali Cultural Dance competition on October 9th 2016 at 2939 Ellis St, Berkeley, CA 94703-2107.
to raise funds as part of the annual fund raising event to support Makalu Dance Academy. The Dance academy will be officially inaugurated by one of the Most prominent and award winning , Legendary Dance Choreographer of Nepal Mr. Basant Shresta. He has served Nepali Film Industry for more than 25 years. His debut and one of the most popular film as a Choreographer is Sindur, Still he has been choreographed to many Feature films to Dance classes. Serves as Judge of many prominent Dance Completion in Nepal. He has received on of the most prestigious awards of Nepal Dakshin Bahu and Indira Rajya Laxmi Pragya Award. He has received twice National Film award and honored and felicitated by Government of Nepal as a Best Choreographer and his outstanding achievement and contribution to uplift Nepali Dance in Nepali Film Industry in Nepal.
Funds raised by the event will be used to promote Cultural, Educational and Dance activities of the Nepalese Community living in Greater San Francisco Bay area.
According to program coordinator and Program Chairperson Lion Sangita Sharma of Makalu Lions Club, “Money raised on that will allow Lions to meet pressing needs in our community including running Dance academy Lions members thank everyone who contributes to this important work. You are truly helping Lions make a difference in our community.”
Chairperson Sangita Sharma is also one of the prominent Dancer and Choreographer and well-known social worker of Bay Area Nepali Community. She had been working as a Dancer and Choreograph in Nepal Pragya Pratisthan since 1986 to 2005. She has starter her career as a artist and dancer from one of the most popular Dance Drama “Malati Mangale” to many Nepali Features films in the Industry. She has visited and performed more than 25 countries of the world representing and showcasing Nepali Dance, culture and arts. She has served as a Judge to many Dance competition organized by the community in Nepal and USA as well. She lives in San Francisco and she will be serving as a Instructor of Makalu Dance Academy. She has performed various dance forms and choreographed in various occasions and programs.

Sangita Sharma and Priti Thapa will be the Dance Instructor of the Academy said Club Secretary Khagendra Rawal, Priti Thapa born and raised in the country that is rich in heritage of art and culture. Since her childhood she was very passionate about dancing. She has formally taken dance class from Sadhana Kala Kendra from very early age. She also participated in various dancing activities of my school and colleges. She has also performed in many dance competitions & cultural shows in Nepal as well as in India & Japan. She has also won various awards performing in different dance forms like Krishna Charitra , Maruni,Taditional folk dance etc. Priti Says, "Dance is the way we express when words are insufficient".

The Makalu Lions Club which was sponsored by Berkeley Annapurna Lions Club chartered in 2015 has more than two dozens of dedicated Members and meets once in a month every Last Sunday of the month at Himalayan Flavors Restaurant at 10 Am.
