Man With Assault Rifle Arrested In Berkeley

An officer patrolling the marina area discovered the concealed assault rifle.

BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley Police seized an assault rifle and arrested a 37 year old Berkeley man at the marina on Saturday, police report. Brian Mentheum Cooper, Sr. was booked into jail on suspicion of carrying a a concealed assault weapon.

Police say that an officer doing a security check of the marina stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Seawall Drive just after 7 a.m. The officer found a loaded assault rifle during a search of the vehicle.

An update on Cooper's status is not immediately available.
