Man Beat Up, Phone Stolen At Grizzly Peak: Cops

The victim told police that he wandered away from friends to take photos when he was attacked.

BERKELEY, CA — A male victim was assaulted and robbed of his phone early Saturday just off Grizzly Peak Boulevard in Berkeley, police said.

According to University of California police, officers received a report Tuesday of the robbery that occurred at about 3:30 a.m. at the turn-out at Sign Post 16 on Grizzly Peak Boulevard.

The victim told officers that he was with some friends enjoying the view from the turn-out when he went down the west embankment away from his friends to take some photos with his phone.

Police said two people confronted the victim, punched and kicked him and took his phone.

Police said other suspects blocked the victim from retreating back up the embankment so he went farther down to get away.

About five suspects in all were involved in the incident, according to police.

The victim suffered bruises and scrapes. He is not a UC Berkeley student, police said.
