Man Clobbered With Board, Pepper Sprayed In Berkeley

One man has been arrested while a second suspect got away, according to police.

BERKELEY, CA — A 51-year-old man was hit in the head with a wooden board by a 24-year-old man and pepper-sprayed by a second suspect in his 20s or 30s late Monday night in Berkeley, police said Wednesday.

Officers with the Berkeley Police Department responded at 11:52 p.m. to a report of a physical altercation in the 2400 block of Bancroft Way.

At the scene, officers arrested the suspect who hit the man with the board on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The second suspect was described as a white man about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build and long dreadlocks. He fled the area before he could be identified and detained.
