BERKELEY, CA — Union Pacific Railroad will perform maintenance work in Berkeley, forcing the closure of streets for all or part of five days starting Friday.
According to the City of Berkeley, Gilman Street between Second and Fourth Streets will be closed to through traffic from Friday, May 25 at 9 p.m. through May 29 at 3 p.m. Union Pacific Railroad maintenance crews will have the railroad crossing on Gilman Street closed in order to make repairs to the tracks. This weekend was chosen for the repair work in hopes that it would minimize the impact on local traffic.
You will hear passing trains sounding additional horns because of the repair work, as required by law, especially at night and in the early morning hours. The maintenance equipment and vehicles will also make a racket with backup beepers. Union Pacific apologizes in advance for the disruption.
