Ranked Choice Voting
What voters in District 8 of Berkeley are currently concerned about.
The complicated Ranked-Choice Voting results should not be released to the public before the process has been completed. Letting people know the shifting positions must be brutal on the candidates running.
It seems to be a faulty system. If people vote for only one candidate in all three spots their vote is invalidated. Write-ins other than for the listed candidates is a wasted vote. As candidates become eliminated their votes are divided equally amongst the remaining candidates. The result of voting in ways unacceptable to the Registrar of Voters basically means that not all votes are counted and, if you vote correctly, your vote may be given to someone else.
With all the talk of a re-count, to make news of who is currently in the lead puts us all through a perverse form of run-off election that we wish to avoid.
