BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin launched his 2020 re-election campaign on Wednesday, citing his opposition to President Donald Trump as a key reason that residents should vote for him.

Arreguin, who previously had been on the Berkeley City Council for eight years, became the city's first Latino mayor when he was elected in 2016 and succeeded former Mayor Tom Bates, who had held the city's top job for 14 years.

Arreguin told supporters in an email that he's running on his record of progress on issues such as housing and homelessness.
