Rifle-Toting Robber Confronts 2 Men Near UC Campus
The suspect fled in a pickup, then climbed onto a rooftop to try to get away from officers, police report.

BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley police have arrested a suspect in connection with an armed robbery early Sunday near the city's University of Caifornia campus, thanks to an alert campus police officer.
The robbery occurred at 1:33 a.m. Sunday near Benvenue Avenue and Dwight Way, when two men walking on Dwight Way were approached by a man with a rifle who had just exited a white pickup truck.
The suspect demanded their property and robbed one of the men of his backpack before fleeing in the truck.

At 7:44 a.m. Monday, an alert campus police officer recognized the suspect's truck and notified Berkeley police. When officers arrived and tried to stop the suspect's truck, the vehicle sped away leading a pursuit for several blocks before it reached a dead-end on Russell Street.
The suspect fled into the neighborhood, but police apprehended him shortly thereafter on a nearby rooftop.
