Robbery Victim Shot By Suspect In Berkeley

The victim was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

BERKELEY, CA — A man was shot during a street robbery in Berkeley Tuesday night, according to police. He was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was treated and later released.

Police received calls from multiple people reporting gunshots at 9:32 p.m. The callers also said that a man was calling for help.

Officers found the 32-year-old victim near the intersection of Vine Street and Bonita Avenue. The two suspects were already gone when police arrived.

Police report, "The victim parked his car on the 1900 block of Vine Street and had exited it when the two suspects approached him from behind. One of the suspects grabbed the victim’s backpack and began to try to pull it from his grasp. The victim resisted and the suspected shot him. The suspect then dragged the victim to the sidewalk while the victim continued to hold onto his backpack. The suspect then fired the weapon two more times at the victim. Ultimately the victim let go of the backpack and both suspects were last seen running south on Bonita Avenue."

  • Suspect 1: Black male adult, large build, 20-30, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt
  • Suspect 2: Black male adult, thin build, black hooded sweatshirt
