Judy Appel and her wife were struck by a vehicle as they were crossing a street in Berkeley.

BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley School Board President Judy Appel remains hospitalized for injuries she suffered earlier this month when she was hit by a car as she crossed Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Berkeley, school district spokesman Charles Burress reported on Tuesday.

Appel and her wife Alison Bernstein "were rushed to a local hospital, where their medical care is continuing," Burress writes.

Berkeley School Board Vice President Beatriz Leyva-Cutler is presiding over meetings in Appel's absence. No estimate has been given publicly about when Appel may be able to return to her duties.
