​Storage Room Fire Described As 'Arson' Near UC Berkeley

UC Berkeley police and the Berkeley Fire Department responded to the smell of smoke.

BERKELEY, CA — A fire sprang up in a storage room in Berkeley early Sunday morning, UC Berkeley police said, describing the blaze as "arson."

UC Berkeley police and the Berkeley Fire Department responded to the smell of smoke in the 2200 block of Bancroft Way around 6:31 a.m. Sunday, according to UC Berkeley police Sgt. Stephen Burcham.

Some bedding in a partially secured storage room was on fire, and firefighters knocked the fire down, Burcham said. The fire did not spread beyond the storage area, according to Burcham.

"...An unknown person had ... set some bedding and other items on fire," police alleged in a WarnMe alert.
